On Bartlett, Near Revolution Cafe

It is 7:21 a.m, 54° and headed to 65°. Details for the next ten days are here.

Yolanda Lopez and René Yañez, who are being evicted from their home of more than three decades,  are having a garage sale this weekend at Galería de la Raza on 24th Street near Bryant Street. They will use the proceeds to cover moving costs. The sale will run today from 9 a.m to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo will be celebrated today on Valencia Street between 21st and 22nd from 10 to 6 p.m.  Mission Local will be there.

Here is another graphic that attempts to nail SF stereotypes.  Somehow, it feels dated. I have seen many mustaches around the Mission lately.

And here is our piece for the day on Mission Trailblazers.

Okay, this is late so enough for Saturday! Enjoy the day!

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019 when I retired. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still there.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how you make that long-held interest in local news sustainable. The answer continues to elude me.
