San Francisco General Hospital alerted staff earlier this week to beware of a 40 to 50-year-old man in a wheelchair who, they suspect, has assaulted several women near the hospital campus.
“A woman was punched in her lower torso by someone in a wheelchair and they think there have been other assaults,” said Susan Fahey, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Department. The proximity of the assault at 22nd Street and Potrero Avenue triggered Tuesday’s alert to the hospital’s staff.
“We did not arrest someone,” said Fahey, who added that they don’t yet know if police have made any arrests.
The sheriff’s unit at the hospital believes that the suspect has used the hospital’s psychiatric emergency services. Those concerns have been shared with police, Fahey said.
