It's all black for 962 Valencia St.

It’s 7 a.m, 55° and headed to 61°. Details for the next ten days are here.

We Built This City has some nice shots of paintings by Jessica Joy Jirsa at the City Art Gallery on Valencia.

See many messenger bikes around the Mission last night? One or all may have been part of a new service, L. Condom, to deliver condoms to any place in the city in less than 60 minutes, reports the SF Weekly.   What is the guy/girl riding the bike thinking about? Or is it the same as delivering pizza?

If you haven’t had your fill of strangeness on Muni or here, read the wrap up from Muni Diaries.

Be sure to check out our on-going series on the 1978 housing crisis in 7 Video Clips. This is Clip 3 on Shotwell in 1978 and 2010.

It’s a good day to be free.  Enjoy it.

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019 when I retired. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still there.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how you make that long-held interest in local news sustainable. The answer continues to elude me.
