California kicked off the new year by adding over 800 new laws. The Chronicle summarizes 20 of these new laws, like gun control measures and transgender rights.

In case you missed yesterday’s action, protestors took to the street again on Wednesday afternoon. But instead of holding up a tech bus, this time they protested SFPD by chanting things like, “Shoot the cops, tear up coffee shops!” while marching down Mission Street. Surfs up! Today is the last day to catch the “king tides” that have been hammering the California coast since Tuesday morning. King tides are some of the highest tides of the year, and some researchers and environmental groups say that they portend the effects of rising sea levels in the future. Read more here.
