This idea is to feature portraits of local characters (the ones in this design are: a member of a mariachi band, a muralist, a paletero and an Aztec dancer.) I sketched them in this design, but another idea would be to use black and white photos that I’ve taken of each character, and draw in the rest (guitar, ice cream cart, feather headdress, etc.)

Another way to do this one, would be to work with kids at local schools by providing the photos of the characters, and working with them to draw in the rest. For example: I would give them the photo of the paletero, and brainstorm with them to come up with a design for his ice cream cart. This would be a way to feature the people who make the community what it is, while involving a future generation in the creative process.
