Debra Saunders writes on SFGate about the decision by actress Maria Conchita Alonso to leave the Brava’s production of “The Vagina Monologues,” after pro-immigrant groups threatened a boycott because the actress appeared in an advertisement for a Republican candidate who is anti-immigrant.
“We really can’t have her in the show, unfortunately,” producer Eliana Lopez told KPIX. And: “Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe.”
Interestingly, this is precisely what Miami groups did when artists perceived as pro-Castro wanted to perform in Miami.
This makes a good reason to boycott the Bravo Theatre for their discrimination against a talented actress. At least Ms Alonso came to the United States legally & did not break any laws.

Keep the Mission brown but only the right kind of brown and not Indian tech workers for sure.
Once again San Francisco shows how tolerant and diverse it is. You can say, believe or do anything you want here, so long as it is political correct.
BTW, I wonder whether that candidate is really “anti-immigrant” or “anti illegal immigrant”. Of course, making that distinction is not allowed in San Francisco. Somehow using the word “illegal” proves that one is a racist.
What this entire episode really proves is that certain people are so close-minded and intolerant that they must punish and smear as racist anyone who holds different views.
I’m trying to find the philosophical connection between Eliana Lopez’s “We really can’t have her in the show…Doing what she is doing is against what we believe” and the loyally lined up lefties on the Board of Supervisors who voted to keep Ross Mirkarimi in his job as Sheriff after his conviction on domestic violences charges. But I can’t.
OMG, is Ross’s soap actress wife the impetus behind this nauseous piece of job discrimination?

Not that I really give a crap but it would be a very helpful sign if people were hired for a job based on their skills and not on an irrelevancy like how politically correct they are or whether their opinions pass ideological muster.
Way too precious. I’ve hired many people and it would never occur to me to either ask about their politics nor consider them.
Employers cannot discriminate based on religious beliefs, so why are they allowed to discriminate based on political beliefs?
