The state-run Buena Vista Migrant Center in Watsonville closed its doors, permanently, yesterday, leaving seasonal farmworkers questioning their future. “More and more farmworker families are having second thoughts about the tradition of migrating twice a year,” reported The California Report yesterday. Buena Vista Migrant Center was one of 24 state-run camps that provided cheap rent and free daycare during the picking seasons.

The Bay Area is even wilder than you thought. Scientists at the University of Santa Cruz have been tracking the expansion of mountain lions — a once nearly depleted species that has recently been beefing up its population in the Bay Area. However, mountain lions haven’t yet joined their furry friends — coyotes — to become residents in San Francisco. Read more here.
