It’s 7 a.m and 51 degrees, and it looks like it’s going to be another cold one in the Mission, with a high of 61 degrees. Check out weather for the next ten days here.
Yaron Milgrom, owner of Local Mission Eatery and Local Mission Corner, is featured in a recent article in The Atlantic. Milgrom’s upcoming venture, Local Mission Market, puts an unusual spin on the concept of a neighborhood market: everything is made fresh in house (sans raw food). “We wanted to make the best food the most convenient food, because they almost never overlap,” Milgrom tells The Atlantic.
Authorities have identified the victim of a tragic car accident that occurred in the Mission over the weekend. According to the Chronicle, Han Cheng Li, 62, died after being struck by a van around 11:30 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of 16th Street and Potrero Avenue. Few details are being released, but the driver of the van is cooperating with police.
In honor of the U.S. women’s national soccer team visiting the Bay this weekend, the Chronicle has a nice profile on player Abby Wambach, who recently married her longtime girlfriend. It’s significant because homosexuality has long been viewed as taboo in the world of sports. As the Chronicle notes, sex appeal toward male viewers was not so long ago a key marketing strategy for the women’s soccer team. But it sounds like Wambach’s fans have responded very positively to the marriage. “I think that’s one of the surprising and uplifting things,” Wambach told the Chronicle.
