Francisco Hernández developed a love of cooking as a child in Mexico watching his grandmother prepare meals. At El Metate, on Bryant and 22nd Street, he offers the Mexican food of his childhood with a healthy twist.
The days when Hernández used to compete with his mom to see who could make the best mole are far now but after nearly 50 years in the United States, he still misses the tranquility of small towns in Mexico. His specialty? The fish taco, it’s tasty and affordable.
