A gas leak occurred at San Jose Avenue and Duncan Street around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, when a construction crew accidentally hit a four-way gas line under the street.

San Francisco Fire Department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge said that PG&E shut down the four gas lines and fixed the problem by 4:20 p.m.

“There was a strong smell of gas around that area,” Talmadge said, “so we advised people that were smelling it to shelter in place until the problem was mitigated.” Corner buildings at the intersection were evacuated until the leak was fixed.

No injuries were reported and the intersection is now open to traffic.
