Job Title: Part-Time Business Development Manager

Job Summary
The Business Development Manager of Mission Local is responsible (with assistance from the editors) for overseeing and managing our various funding sources, while acting as an administrative assistant to the editors when necessary.

Responsibilities
- Grant writing: Research and apply for grants to keep our programs and general operations running
- Advertising: Be in communication with local small and large businesses; sell and manage all advertisement space we offer
- Fundraising: Help organize fundraising events, and design and manage fundraising campaigns a few times per year
- Admin: Design and mail our weekly e-newsletter to readers; update our Mission business directory; assist editors with research and back-end jobs when necessary; potentially manage the publication of our quarterly print edition

Qualifications
- Excellent computer skills required, including proficiency with Mac, Microsoft Office and other standard business applications
- High school diploma, college degree a plus, with a background in business, financial planning and/or marketing
- 1-2 years experience in the nonprofit sector or other relevant experience
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and complete tasks independently
- Excellent oral communication and writing skills
- Ability to build collaborative relationships with other staff and external parties (e.g. donors, partners, local businesses, foundations and others)
- Creativity for envisioning innovative funding sources
- Prior grant writing experience a plus

Preferred, but not necessary
- Spanish speaking
- Native to the Mission District, or at least some knowledge of the neighborhood
- Some experience and interest in local journalism
- Basic graphic design skills

Compensation and benefits
- Part-time, 24 hours per week, $15/hr
- Really flexible work schedule
- Opportunities to learn photography, videography, and print journalism, and work on projects of interest.

Start Date
Training begins mid-February, position will begin at the end of February 2013.
