According to the Bay Citizen, California has been using an incorrect baseline to measure progress at its lowest-performing schools. Six years ago, the state reported an inflated rate of teachers lacking proper credentials. Get the full story here.

The LA Times reports that above-average temperatures and extremely dry conditions have resulted in a higher-than-usual number of wildfires, especially in Northern California. As of Sept. 22, the state fire department had fought 5,070 blazes — 1,300 more than last year.
