If you rely on public transportation to get to work, be aware that protests are scheduled for early Monday morning.
Several groups have called for a “Muni shutdown” on Monday and have asked protesters to gather at various locations. One of the meetings will take place at 6 a.m. at 14th and Market streets, according to a public Facebook page created by one of the groups.
July 16 marks the one-year anniversary of the death of Kenneth Harding Jr., a 19-year-old who died after an encounter with police after he failed to pay his Muni fare.
On its Facebook page, the group wrote:
On July 16th, it’ll be 1 year after the SFPD murdered Kenneth Harding Jr. over a $2 Muni fare. The city, SFMTA and the SFPD are stonewalling on the investigation and aren’t releasing videos they confiscated. The family of Kenneth need answers. They shot him the back but can’t look us in the eye? Kenneth Harding didn’t have to die.
When we have family emergencies, we SHUT DOWN our work and take care of our loved ones. Shutting it down is normal. Sweeping it under the rug and going about business as usual is not normal. Do any of our city leaders care? So on Monday July 16th at 6am we going to start the Shutdown Movement and SHUT IT DOWN.
He shot himself….as well as murdering a pregnant woman….nice guy to support. And he wasn’t even from SF, he was trying to hide!
It’s ridiculous and disingenuous to say that Harding was shot for evading a $2 muni fare. He was shot for shooting at police, AND the gun he was using was later linked to a recent shooting death of a pregnant woman in Seattle. If you’re going to protest, don’t protest for this guy. He’s exactly the type of predator that needs to be off the streets instead of allowed to continue victimizing innocent people. He pulled out a gun and fired it on a crowded street…. and thank God he shot himself rather than another innocent person. Anyone who’s going to protest Muni (and why Muni??) because of this guy needs to get their priorities straight. You should be thanking your lucky stars (and the SFPD) that this animal is off the streets!
Oh, and it turns out, the bullet he was shot with was his own. Witnesses reported him shooting over his shoulder at police as he ran away. So the police didn’t even shoot this fool. Protest???
MUNI will be shut down or operating at less than desired efficiency? How will anyone be able to tell?
Isn’t that the guy who was wanted for pimping out a 14 year-old in Washington State an shot himself in the head by accident when he pulled out a gun and tried to shot at the police over his shoulder?
Who are these people? Are they real?
Well, not only did this upstanding citizen serve time for trying to pimp out a 14 year old girl, but the gun he accidentally shot himself with in SF was linked to the killing of a 19 year old woman in Seattle during a shooting in which an additional 3 people were shot.
