Police Ask for Help Identifying Suspects in Aggravated Assault

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying four suspects in connection with an aggravated assault that happened early Friday, July 13, on 18th Street and South Van Ness Avenue.

Claire, the wife of the victim, who preferred to give her first name only, told Mission Local that her husband, Colter, got off the bus at 18th and South Van Ness shortly before 1 a.m. and called to tell her he would stop at a corner store before going home. The couple had been working on creating a website, and Colter had finished working for the night. Minutes later he called her again to tell her he had been hit by a car and his leg and arm were broken.

Claire ran out of their home and went to find her husband. She found him lying on the ground.

“His arm and leg were twisted up at a crazy angle,” she said.

Police reports show that four men between the ages of 20 and 25 were inside a vehicle when they struck the victim with the car.

As he crawled to the sidewalk, three suspects got out of the car. Claire told Mission Local that the men kept demanding that Colter give them his iPod. He refused and was punched repeatedly. One suspect took his cellphone and threw it against the wall. The men then fled the scene westbound on 18th Street in a silver sedan.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on 18th between South Van Ness and Mission.

The victim was taken to the hospital that night. According to Claire, Colter has had two surgeries for a broken leg and arm.

If you have any information, you can contact the Mission Police Station at 415-558-5400.

What a nightmare. Prayers for a speedy recovery, and may justice find the perpetrators.

Awful. I’m wondering if any of this was caught on surveillance tape anywhere? Did the incident take place near the corner store?
