Police blocked off Mission between 19th and 20th streets early Saturday.

A shooting occurred on Mission Street just before 1 a.m. Saturday, police said. The incident happened between 19th and 20th streets, and no one was injured, according to Officer Carlos Manfredi.

Police received a call that gunshots had been fired, and a unit that was close by began patrolling the area. Officers saw a man run away as soon as he spotted the police vehicle, so they got out of the car and chased him on foot. Shortly after, the officers apprehended the suspect and the weapon before closing the block off to traffic, police said.

An employee of a nearby business said that he saw a man standing in front of the El Capitan Hotel fire four gunshots across the street and then flee.

The block was busy with bar-goers, some of whom ran for cover, said the employee, who wished to remain anonymous.

“It was really scary,” said an employee of another nearby business, who also asked that her name not be used. “People heard the shots and first thought it was fireworks going off.”

The gang task force is currently investigating the incident, police said.

  1. Thanks for reporting on this — my gf and I live at 20th and Capp and were woken up by the gunshots. Heard the sirens almost immediately afterwards followed by some muffled shouting that sounded something like “get down on the ground”. Glad to hear they caught the SOB.
