City Hall’s Latino Heritage Month event grew from a small gathering four years ago to a festive celebration with more than 400 people in attendance on Tuesday night. Mayor Gavin Newsom and the 2010 Latino heritage committee honored 14 community leaders, including La Mission director Peter Bratt and actor Benjamin Bratt; Ana Perez, executive director of Central American Resource Center; and Estela Garcia, executive director of Instituto Familiar de la Raza.
Walking in the streets of the Mission takes Lauren back to the streets of South America. Up until now, she’s known the Mission through its bars and restaurants; now it’s the buzz on Mission Street that attracts her. She loves listening to the Spanish in the streets.
