Two Openings: Alchemy, and Beautiful Possibility
Alchemy is a group exhibition with new work by Ellen Babcock, Brice Bischoff, Michelle Blade, John Chiara, Randy Colosky, Adam Hathaway, Christopher Sicat and Lindsey White. Alchemy opens in conjunction with Beautiful Possibility which features works by Alison Pebworth. “Beautiful Possibility is a two-year, coast-to-coast touring project by Alison Pebworth investigating American history and contemporary culture. It takes the prototype of the 19th century American traveling show as inspiration for engaging people across the country in dialogue about what it means to be American. ” Both exhibitions run from March 12 – April 24. Fri., March 12. 7-9pm. Southern Exposure. 3030 20th Street. 415.863.2141

Coyote Grace
I’ve never thought of the Coyote as a graceful animal. I don’t know if they belong among the ranks of Swans, pandas, and jellyfish. Still, Coyote Grace’s music doesn’t dissappoint. See them at Dolores Park Cafe this Friday. Get ready to hear some really skilled guitar-playing and vocal harmonies. I have to agree: “Rock and roll is music now.” Fri., March 12. 7:30pm-10pm. Dolores Park Cafe. 501 Dolores Street. 415.621.2936

Cheesemonger: Life on the Wedge
After spending years working with cheese at Rainbow Grocery, Gordon Edgar probably knows more about cheese than most of us would ever care to know. Come celebrate the relase of his new book Cheesemonger: A Life on the Wedge. Sat., March 13. 7pm. Free. Amensia. 853 Valencia Street. 415.970.0012

Sonny & the Sunsets
After filling up on cheese, stay at Amnesia for a night of music. This show should be pretty incredible. Headed by the amazing Sonny Smith, “Sonny & the Sunsets’ busted beach-pop songs spark recollections of doo wop’s otherworldly despair, the kitchen sink savoir faire of The Raincoats, a dose of goofball humor from the Michael Hurley school, and positive possibilities exuded by Jonathan Richman, with and without The Modern Lovers.” They will also be joined by Kelly Stoltz, Beaches – an awesome girl band from Australia, and the Titan Ups. Sat., March 13. 9pm. $8. Amensia. 853 Valencia Street. 415.970.0012

Reverie – Nice shot of cheese wedges in Kelly’s video as well – a cheesy time to be had in the Mission this weekend for sure!
