HIT & RUN: An elderly man driving a silver PT Cruiser sideswiped an ambulance this afternoon on 17th Street near Bryant Street.

The ambulance was answering an emergency call at Franklin Square Park at 1 p.m., and was parked and unoccupied at the time of the accident.

Police pulled the man over two blocks away, and said he hadn’t realized he’d struck the ambulance.

“I heard a crunch and saw his mirror rolling down the street,” said one paramedic who asked not to be identified.

There were no injuries and little damage other than a solid streak scratched across the side of the ambulance.

Officers said an investigation was being conducted and weren’t sure if the man would be charged.
